Rachel’s Hen Survival Guide

Slowly but surely, the sound of wedding bells are beginning to chime in the distance, and soon wedding season will be upon us! Birthorderplus Managing Director Rachel is helping us prepare for the second most important event of the wedding – the hen weekend. Whether you’re the bride or a guest, here are her top tips to get you through it…

Having been a hen many times, my first piece of advice would be to have fun and make friends – it may seem obvious but don’t forget that while it’s not only a fun send-off for the bride, the hen is when the ladies attending get to do some pre-wedding bonding!

That said, don’t forget to share with care – while it may be traditional to tell embarrassing stories about the bride, bear in mind she may not be happy if you spill the deepest darkest secrets you’ve shared from your school days to her work colleagues. Its also important to get the tone right – its best not to show up rocking a feather boa to afternoon tea with the bride’s elderly relatives.

Some of best hen parties are the ones that aren’t afraid to out-do the boys, and if possible you should have the hen at the same time as the stag – that way nobody’s worrying what the other is getting up to. However always pace yourself – the hen is a long game and you’re going to want to go the distance. You will have to see your co-hens again in the near future…possibly in a church…

The BEST thing about being a hen is giving generously – have fun putting together a trousseau filled with sexy silk lingerie by Mimi Holliday, or a fun and flirty Bride Set by cheekfrills. Our bespoke silk chiffon knickers by Kalita are a must and always go down well! Get the hens together to get a memento for the bride – some bespoke jewellery is a no-brainer and a lovely way for the bride to remember the occasion forever.

If you’re the one getting hitched, make sure to put your faith and trust in to your Maid of Honour, and if you have recently discovered your inner Bridezilla, just make sure to leave her at home worrying about the big day itself – the Hen is a chance to have a proper blow out with your best friends and you want to make sure you enjoy it. Don’t forget to thank your Hens afterward too!
